It’s possible to discover Namibia on a short trips, even though it’s a massive country.
Namibia is no doubt one of the most beautiful and diverse countries in the world!
As an African I find myself immensely privileged to be able to enjoy, explore and learn about the rugged beauty of the country and being able to share this beauty with guests from all over the world is truly a dream come true.
Because of the diversity in the topography and landscape of the country the safari options are endless. From the somewhat cooler south to the moderate coastal areas, to the warmer northern parts, the canvas in front of you remains fascinating and you will have fond memories of the country for years to come.
Let’s look at the more popular attractions, all of whom offer both camping and lodging accommodation, and see how we can incorporate them into short, medium, and longer safaris.
6 Day Safari
Windhoek, Damaraland and Etosha with Swakopmund and the Skeleton Coast as optional add ons

For those more into Wildlife, Damaraland combined with Etosha National park is a great suggestion. Here you need around 6 days, each of which again will be as exciting as the next!
Traveling from Windhoek to Twyfelfontein where there are a number of must see attractions e.g. the Unesco world heritage site Twyfelfontein rock engravings, the burnt mountain, Damara cultural village as well as the petrified forest. On to Etosha where there are huge numbers of wildlife and a selection of different rest camps to choose from. Etosha has large elephant as well as rhino and lion numbers and never fails to produce great sightings.
This tour can be expanded further by incorporating the skeleton coast into the itinerary. Visiting the huge seal colony en route is an added bonus not to be missed!
6 or 8 Day Safari
Windhoek, Kalahari desert, Fish river canyon, Swakopmund. Luderitz being a possible add on
By far the biggest attraction down south is the Fish river canyon, one of the biggest in the world and definitely worth seeing.
Traveling through the real Kalahari desert is a bonus and I suggest at least one night somewhere in the red dunes of the Mariental area. Whilst down south another great option is a couple of days in colonial town Luderitz, best known for the existence of Kolmanskoppe, a ghost town where remnants of colonial opulence during the early diamond rush of the area is on display. From here heading back to Windhoek can be done the quick way via the paved B1 highway, or by the off the beaten track C 13 and C14 dirt roads.
This option allows an opportunity to call in on Sossusvlei dunes as it’s perfectly situated halfway en route to Windhoek.
For this southern meander 6 to 8 days are needed.

10 Day Safari
Windhoek, Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Skeleton coast and Etosha National Park

The Sossusvlei dunes are a definite must see and so is the Etosha National Park!
Both can be visited individually from Windhoek in short tours of 3 to 4 days, when time is an issue. If you however have a few more days available, why not combine the two and also include the skeleton coast and Swakopmund? Here you need 10 days, each of which will be fully enjoyed with many amazing highlights!
Our speciality is small group private safaris which could either be camping or lodging, or sometimes a combination of the two.
16 Day Safari
Windhoek, Kalahari desert, Fish River Canyon, Sossusvlei dunes, Swakopmund, Skeleton Coast, Twyfelfontein and Damaraland, Etosha National Park
The big one includes all the above in a 16 day round trip starting and ending in Windhoek!
From the capital city it’s south all the way to the Kalahari and the Fish river canyon, before changing direction back north all the way up to Etosha National park where a spectacle of wildlife awaits! Along the route there are an array of awesome attractions including the big dunes of Sossusvlei, colonial Swakopmund, Spitzkoppe, the Skeleton Coast, Twyfelfontein, greater Damaraland, some Himba villages, and finally Etosha, the biggest prize of them all.
Africa’s Best Adventures offers a variety of Privately guided camping and or lodge packages to all the areas mentioned above, as well as to other areas certainly worth a visit.
They are a little more remote and not so easily accessible eg the Kaudum National park in the north east, the northern boundary with Angola where the well known Epupa falls can be found, and finally the Caprivi strip which offers super lodging and camping establishments in the far north eastern corner of the country.
