SOUTH AFRICA INFORMATION
Shopping is amazing and you will find everything you need in abundance.
BANKING & CURRENCY
Banking, money exchange, card machines are everywhere and of good quality. Visa, Master and American Express cards are accepted everywhere. The Rand/USD/ Euro exchange rate is always favourable to tourists, making vacations in South Africa relatively cheap.
MEDICAL
Medical care is excellent with many private hospitals everywhere.
Malaria is prevalent in the Northern regions including the Kruger National Park whilst the southern regions including Cape Town are malaria free. Speak to your local health practitioner before leaving your country of origin.
WATER
Water in taps is generally good for drinking, although bottled water is freely available too.
CRIME
Crime in South Africa is higher than you would expect and government is constantly working hard to reduce crime levels as much as possible. Tourist areas generally are well policed and safe for tourists travelling in groups.
CLIMATE
Temperatures vary from Region to Region. Whilst the Cape Region has a Mediterranean climate, Northern areas enjoy summer rainfall, making such areas substantially colder during the dry season, followed by warmer conditions during the wet season. Roads are very good in the Southern provinces with average to poor in the Northern areas.
WILDLIFE
Wildlife is astoundingly good in most of the National Parks as well as the private reserves. The Big Five can frequently be seen when visiting some of the many reserves.
CELL/MOBILE & COMMUNICATION
Cell phone, digital and electrical connections are good, although power outages do occur at times.
VEHICLE RENTAL
Car hire is very good with many suppliers to choose from in most cities.
FUEL
Filling stations are everywhere and fuel prices very affordable.
