There are so many positives in this tour, it’s not often that one highlight follows right on another and this happens all the time here! The people of Eswatini are incredibly welcoming and friendly to start with…then follows such an awesome selection of top wildlife destinations, most of which are as scenic as can be to boot!
What really sets it apart from the rest is the east coast ocean input with Cape Vidal a truly beautiful destination and to my mind the top pick of the entire Isimangaliso wetland system! Your wildlife input will amongst others include cape buffalo, elephant, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, hyena, hippo, crocodile and of course the many antelope species, giraffe, birds and smaller mammals. You will be spoilt for choice like never before.
Another cherry on the cake is of course the opportunity to traverse the majestic Panoramic Route to and from the Kruger National Park. The wildlife parks we have the privilege to call upon are: Mbuluzi, Hlane, Hluhluwe, Isimangaliso Wetland Park and finally the mighty Kruger….what a wonderful selection of Africa’s best!
Our detailed itinerary follows below.
ROUTE: (JOHANNESBURG – JOHANNESBURG)
DAY 1
We collect you from your lodging in Johannesburg at first light and travel to the Oshoek border crossing where we enter the very beautiful Eswatini. After purchasing stock in Manzini we head on to Mbuluzi Nature Reserve, our home for the next two nights. After setting up camp we enjoy a light snack before embarking on a late afternoon game drive of the reserve, looking out for giraffe, kudu, and more. A mutually prepared campfire dinner follows and soon after we retire for the day, in order to get sufficient rest for a full day of action tomorrow.
DAY 2
After coffee and biscuits we leave camp for the first of two game drives today. The reserve has good numbers of a variety of mammals and we are bound to see many of them as we traverse the one section during the morning drive. Once back at base brunch is prepared, after which you are free to relax until we embark on the late afternoon drive. The reserve has two sections and during the afternoon drive we tackle the more mountainous part, hoping to see more of the beautiful animals that roam here. Campfire dinner follows and after a day of fun and excitement, falling asleep is as easy as….one, two, three!
DAY 3
After a leisurely breakfast in camp, we pack up and travel on to the Royal Hlane National Park, Eswatini’s most impressive park by far. Hlane is a stone throw from Mbuluzi, but boasts a huge array of wildlife which includes elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, hyena, and many more. After setting up camp we prepare a light lunch, after which you can enjoy the wildlife at the watering hole within walking distance of our campsite. Late afternoon we enjoy a cup of tea and biscuits, before joining the Hlane rangers on a 2 hour game drive in their open game viewer vehicles. Dinner around the campfire follows.
DAY 4
This is another exciting day as you enjoy another game drive with the park rangers, but this being an early morning drive, which means a lot more action, as the carnivores are a lot more active during the early morning! Brunch follows the game drive after which we pack up camp and travel further south to small town Hluhluwe, the home of the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Park, the oldest game reserve in SA. Upon arrival we book into the Nyalazi campground, our home for the next 3 nights. Soon after setting up camp we start the dinner preparations and enjoy a great meal under the stars.
DAY 5
Today we explore the amazing Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Park extensively during morning as well as afternoon game drives. The park has all the big ones, as well as a host of antelope and of course many of the little ones too! To get the most out of our game drives, we work our meals around game drive hours.
DAY 6
Visiting these shores without exploring Cape Vidal and the St Lucia wetlands area would be unjust, and today is the day for both these wonderful places. Whilst we do an early morning game drive of Cape Vidal, St Lucia is explored during the afternoon, with a hippo cruise of the estuary our final activity of the area, before heading back to our base for another fireside dinner!
DAY 7
After 6 wonderful days south of Johannesburg we now turn back north and tonight’s destination is quaint town Dullstroom, a beautiful town famous for its world class fly fishing facilities. Camping sites are rare in these parts and tonight we enjoy sleeping in a real bed and dining in a real restaurant, a well deserved treat after 6 nights in tents!
DAY 8
The Mpumalanga Panoramic route is world famous for its fascinating beauty and we are treated to most of these beautiful attractions as we travel to Phalaborwa, the starting point of the Kruger National Park part of our adventure. We visit Blyde River Canyon, Gods Window, Bourkes Luck Potholes as well as the impressive Graskop Gorge as we travel along. After entering the Kruger Park at the Phalaborwa gate, we head on to the Letaba Rest Camp, our home for the next 2 nights. Soon after arrival we prepare dinner under the stars!
DAY 9
Today is a day for game drives and we enjoy both morning and evening drives, looking for elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, buffalo and many more!
DAYS 10, 11 and 12
After an early rise and coffee we pack up camp and move south to Satara, our base for the next 3 nights. This is a great part of the safari as we can do extended, leisurely game drives in a range of directions over the three days. We fully utilise our base and enjoy awesome meals to cap each exciting day out in the bush.
DAY 13
Unfortunately the time had come to head back to Johannesburg and today we travel to the small town Sabie, where we spend our last evening on African soil. Last evenings are always special and this one needs a comfy real bed as well as a delicious restaurant prepared dinner!
DAY 14
The dreaded day has arrived and we tackle the last leg of his epic adventure soon after a delicious morning breakfast. Arrival in Johannesburg is at 14h00 and this is when we say our goodbyes and you board your flight for your homeward journey!
